Tifton Georgia History, beginning information

Tifton, Georgia, founded by sawmill supervisor Henry Harding Tift, was incorporated September 29, 1890, and presently is known as "The Friendly City" in keeping with its additional Southern hospitality.

Tifton is also listed in "The 100 Best Small Towns in America," by best selling author Norman Crampton, garnering the nomination for its economic growth, low crime rate, excellent schools and high percentage of college-educated residents. Tifton's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has recently been named one of the Top Ten CommunityDowntown Tifton, Georgia Colleges in America.

Another of Tifton's claim to fame is "Turf Grass Capital of the World." In addition to providing coverage for millions of acres of golf courses throughout the United States, Tifton is home to four scenic golf courses.
